Old Spice

Watching tv commercials was one of my favorite past times as a child. I think I knew the Old Spice commercials by heart. I thought the bottle was really cool too.

Well, it seems I have a different kind of old spice in my house. I have a cabinet full of old spices. While cooking dinner one evening a couple weeks ago, I decided the overcrowded cabinet had to go. I was tired of looking for spices and not being able to find them.

I threw away a garbage bag full of old spices. Bryan and I have lived in our current house for almost 9 yrs, and there were spices in the cabinet that we brought with us from the other house. There were no dates on the spices, but I knew how long they had been there. I think after 9 years they had lost their flavor.

The most exciting part of cleaning this cabinet is the amount of time it took. I was already in the kitchen making dinner, so why not tackle a cabinet. One cabinet, drawer and shelf at a time here I go!

I recently saw a post about a new spice rack that mounts on the inside of the cabinet door with it’s own bottles. It would free up space in the cabinet and be another space saving feature. These are of course on my dream list from Ikea. It would take more than one of these for all my spices.

Preach it Baby!

Wednesday, Bryan was studying at home and I was on a cooking marathon. I was worshiping God while cooking and praying for Bryan as he prepared. I also prayed for those who would hear the word, to take it to heart.

Yesterday, my husband and pastor, preached a message that can change lives if put into action. He talked about the poisonous fruit of bitterness and what it does to us.

There have been times in my life where I didn’t realize I had unforgiveness or bitterness in my heart. Bryan gave us ways we can know if we have bitterness.

Bitter People:

  • Justify their bitterness- “I’m different, if you had been through what I had been through then you would understand”
  • Become overly critical
  • Secretly celebrate the misfortunes of others
  • Write off entire groups of people- Example: Teenagers are lazy and disrespectful
  • Struggle to see bitterness in the mirror

To kill bitterness I must forgive. There are times when I have to forgive each moment of every day. I don’t want bitterness to kill me and divert me from the purpose God has for me.

Ephesians 4:30-32

30And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. 31Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. 32Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.

Late to the Party!

Do you ever feel like you’re the last one to find out about something? The last one to get the “new” toy?

I have felt like that about music most of my life. How do I not know about some of these amazing artists? Well, I’m a little late to the party when it comes to Brooke Fraser. She is my “new” favorite artist.

The first time I heard her was on the Faith+Hope+Love Album by Hillsong. I heard the song “His Glory Appears”, and wondered who was singing this song. I did a little research and found out it was Brooke. She was the voice on several Hillsong recordings I really enjoyed.

This video is of her singing His Glory Appears.
